Noynoy, Mar vow transparency in government
By Delon Porcalla (The Philippine Star) Updated March 05, 2010 12:00 AM
DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – A government under Liberal Party stalwarts Senators Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Manuel “Mar” Roxas II will ensure transparency and easy access to media whether friend or foe, unlike the inaccessible and tightlipped President Arroyo.
“We understand the value of media, whether they criticize us or not, whether it is good or bad news. We may not agree with what you (media) are saying, but we will fight for your right to say it,” vice presidential candidate Roxas told a news conference here.
Roxas lamented that it has become ironic that nowadays, people would rather complain to media entities, which they think have much more credibility, than to the government mired in bureaucratic red tape that has spawned massive corruption.

Black propaganda is part of the arsenal, employed in any kind of conflict—in politics, in economics, in war, in elections. All the parties engaged in the conflict—not only the bad guys but the good guys as well—use black propaganda.
Black propaganda’s distinct feature is that the treacherous material assigned to one side actually originated from the rival group.
In this case, the label of “Villarroyo”—describing Manny Villar as Gloria Arroyo’s clone and candidate—cannot be classified as black propaganda. The one who coined the term had no intention to assign the source of “Villarroyo” to the Villar camp. To disclose information and give credit where credit is due, I cite the creative person who coined “Villarroyo”—Manuel Buencamino, our fellow at Action for Economic Reforms.
A good example of black propaganda is the statement that went viral on the internet, titled “Why I will vote for Noynoy,” allegedly written by Winnie Monsod. (Winnie has issued a disclaimer in her Philippine Daily Inquirer column and on television.)

AS A MATTER OF FACT By Sara Soliven De Guzman (The Philippine Star) Updated March 08, 2010 12:00 AM
For the past four weeks, the Philippine Star has been hosting a series of one-on-one interviews with the Presidential candidates for the May 2010 elections. So far, we have already listened to Manuel “Manny” Villar, Jr. (Nacionalista Party), Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III (Liberal Party), Joseph “Erap” Estrada (Pwersa Ng Masang Pilipino – United Opposition), and Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro, Jr. (Lakas-Kampi-CMD). We have yet to hear from Richard Gordon, Jamby Madrigal, Eddie Villanueva and John Carlos de los Reyes.
These colloquies have been very informative but what makes it more interesting to me is that I was able to see them up close and personal. I had the opportunity to observe their mannerisms, body language, eye movements and their general behavior (patience, temperament, etc.) whenever crucial, controversial, irritating, or easy questions were asked. Let me share with you my personal insights on the first four candidates we already met.
